The Great Egg Dispute of 1948

How a stubborn hen, two determined women, and one patient judge became the talk of Willow Creek.
In the summer of 1948, Mabel Jenkins found herself at the center of the most talked-about court case in Willow Creek.
The dispute?
A stubborn hen named Henrietta.
Every morning Henrietta escaped Mabel's yard and laid her eggs in Mrs. Edith Turner's prize flower garden. Mabel claimed the eggs belonged to her because Henrietta was her chicken. Edith argued the eggs belonged to her because they were laid on her property.
The disagreement became so famous around town that it eventually landed in court.
Mabel arrived wearing her favorite black-and-cream dress and smart little veiled hat, carrying Henrietta herself.
After hearing both sides, the judge ruled that the chicken belonged to Mabel, the flowers belonged to Edith, and the eggs would be shared equally until someone taught Henrietta some manners.
The courtroom burst into laughter, and the story became local legend.

Clara Sterling had worn her favorite yellow skirt for what she thought would be an ordinary afternoon walk. The sun was warm, the wildflowers were blooming, and Buttons trotted happily beside her, stopping every few feet to investigate something only a dog could find fascinating. Then a shadow crossed the road. Clara glanced up just in time to see enormous wings stretching across the sky. Before she could react, an eagle swooped low, and in a moment that seemed impossible, her little dog was gone. Most people would have given up hope. Clara wasn't most people." 🌼🐾🦅
