Faery Muse #3: Ruby Monroe and the Little Yellow House

With just twenty-five cents and a dream, Ruby Monroe bought a forgotten little yellow house—and transformed it into the home she'd always imagined. 💛🏡✨
In the summer of 1947, Ruby Monroe walked into the county courthouse with twenty-five cents in her pocket and a dream most people considered impossible.
The little yellow house on Willow Street had been abandoned for years.
Its paint was peeling. The porch sagged. Weeds had climbed over the white picket fence, and neighborhood children whispered that the place was haunted.
Most people saw a lost cause.
Ruby saw a home.
When the county announced a tax auction, hardly anyone showed up. The neglected cottage wasn't worth much to anyone else.
But Ruby had spent years saving every spare penny she could find. She worked long hours, mended her own clothes, and tucked coins into an old cookie tin hidden in the back of her closet.
She couldn't afford a grand house.
She couldn't afford a new house.
But she could afford a chance.
When the bidding ended, Ruby became the owner of the little yellow cottage for just twenty-five cents.
The neighbors laughed.
"What are you going to do with that old place?" they asked.
Ruby simply smiled.
Every evening after work, she carried a toolbox through the front gate.
She painted walls.
She repaired broken boards.
She planted flowers beneath the windows.
Little by little, the forgotten house began to come back to life.
By the following spring, roses climbed the fence, sunlight poured through freshly washed windows, and the little yellow house had become the prettiest home on the street.
Years later, people would stop to admire the cottage and ask Ruby how she had managed to buy such a lovely home.
She always gave the same answer.
"I didn't buy a house for twenty-five cents," she'd say with a smile.
"I bought a dream and spent the rest of my life building it."
And every morning, as she sipped coffee on her front porch, Ruby knew it had been the best quarter she ever spent.

Summer in Bloom: The Day the Sky Stole Buttons
Clara Sterling had worn her favorite yellow skirt for what she thought would be an ordinary afternoon walk. The sun was warm, the wildflowers were blooming, and Buttons trotted happily beside her, stopping every few feet to investigate something only a dog could find fascinating. Then a shadow crossed the road. Clara glanced up just in time to see enormous wings stretching across the sky. Before she could react, an eagle swooped low, and in a moment that seemed impossible, her little dog was gone. Most people would have given up hope. Clara wasn't most people." 🌼🐾🦅
